Volunteering

There's a long history of volunteerism at the Glenmore Sailing Club... in all capacities of skill and time.  We can't survive without the support of our volunteers!

For members, the Volunteer Credit value can go towards anything GSC runs (workshops, Awards Dinner, Regattas) or your annual membership.

Each Volunteer Credit is designed to require approximately 4-5 hours of volunteer time.  Any questions, email us.

Spring Work Party
T
his is our club's Spring Clean up!  We need this day to help get our club ready for the coming sailing season.  Following the clean up, we will have a pot luck gathering to meet old and new friends.  Please register to help with the clean and/or to provide food for the social.

Wednesday Night Racing - Race Committee
Our Wednesday Night Racing (WNR) is the life blood of the competitive tradition at our club.  Race Committee will be supported by one race officer so volunteers need not be avid racers or experienced at race committee work.  Traditionally each  participant boat is expected to serve one night as RC (or as RC for one Sunday Series afternoon in the fall).  The best seats in the house!  Racing starts at 6:30 SHARP!  That means you need to be on the water by 6:00 p.m.  You'll catch a ride with the City Boat Patrol.  Be sure to bring your gear, cell phone and get in touch with the race officer during the week to coordinate.

Regattas - Midsummer and Fall
Sign up for Race Committee at either of these regattas and you will earn your entire 4 credits!  Other roles include supporting awards, and registration are worth 1
volunteer credit.

Fun Family Fridays
The sailing club rents for $1,400/night for private functions.  This is your opportunity to host all your friends, family, colleagues, and dogs, and introduce them to your fellow club members FOR FREE!  Think up your party theme, build your iTunes play list and throw the best summer deck party you can, all while earning a Volunteer Credit!  GSC staff will ensure the bar is stocked with standard fare beer and wine, which you will sell at happy hour prices, you'll serve frozen grill-your-own burgers also at a bargain (beers and burgers are a small fundraiser for the club), and a standard variety of appetizers will be provided that you can offer free of charge while they last.  The bar is stocked when you arrive, all you have to do is show up.

Sunday Fall Series - Race Committee
In the fall, we switch to Sunday afternoon racing on account of waning sunlight hours.  This is less formal racing, and is not supported by a PRO, but you can learn all you need to know from our Race Committee 101 page.  Similar to WNR, we look to members to serve as Race Committee.  Racing starts at 1:00 p.m. SHARP!  That means you need to be on the water by 12:30 p.m.  You'll catch a ride out to the Race Committee boat with the City Boat Patrol.  Be sure to bring your gear, cell phone and collect the score sheets and barge locker key from the Clubhouse before going onto the water.  Bring a cooler and make a picnic lunch out of it - greatest patio in the City.
