There's a long history of volunteerism at the Glenmore Sailing Club... in all capacities of skill and time. We can't survive without the support of our volunteers!
All volunteers are welcome. For members, volunteering allows you to earn volunteer credits (VC) which, upon earning 1 - 4 credits, can be redeemed for Awards Banquet tickets or credit towards the ensuing year's membership dues. Each VC is designed to require approximately 4-6 hours of work. Be sure to (a) register online per club communications, and (b) check in with the event coordinator when you volunteer so that your attendance is noted. Follow your GSC communications for upcoming volunteer opportunities. Any questions, email us.
Spring Work Party
This is our club's Spring Clean up! We need this day to help get our club ready for the coming sailing season. Following the clean up, we will have a pot luck gathering to meet old and new friends. Please register to help with the clean and/or to provide food for the social.
Wednesday Night Racing - Race Committee
Our Wednesday Night Racing (WNR) is the life blood of the competitive tradition at our club. Race Committee (RC) will be supported by one professional race officer (PRO) so volunteers need not be avid racers or experienced at race committee work. Traditionally each participant boat is expected to serve one night as RC (or as RC for one Sunday Series afternoon in the fall). The best seats in the house! Worth 1 VC for each of up to 3 people. Racing starts at 6:30 SHARP! That means you need to be on the water by 6:00 p.m. You'll catch a ride with the City Boat Patrol. Be sure to bring your gear, cell phone and get in touch with the PRO in the week beforehand to coordinate.
Regattas - Midsummer and Fall
Sign up for RC at either of these regattas and you will earn your entire 4 credits! Other roles include supporting awards, and registration are worth 1 VC.
The sailing club rents for $1,400/night for private functions. This is your opportunity to host all your friends, family, colleagues, and dogs, and introduce them to your fellow club members FOR FREE! Think up your party theme, build your iTunes play list and throw the best summer deck party you can, all while earning a VC! GSC staff will ensure the bar is stocked with standard fare beer and wine, which you will sell at happy hour prices, you'll serve frozen grill your own burgers also at a bargain (beers and pucks are a small fundraiser for the club), and a standard variety of appetizers will be provided that you can offer free of charge while they last (fries, wings, chips, nachos). Bar is stocked when you arrive, all you have to do is show up. Trade hosting duties with other Friday hosts and you can be free to entertain and party! Worth 1 VC for each of up to 3 people.
Sunday Fall Series - Race Committe
In the fall, we switch to Sunday afternoon racing on account of waning sunlight hours. This is less formal racing, and not supported by a PRO, but you can learn all you need to know from our Race Committee 101 page. In conjunction with the WNR program, each participant is traditionally expected to serve as RC. Racing starts at 1:00 p.m. SHARP! That means you need to be on the water by 12:30 p.m. You'll catch a ride with the City Boat Patrol. Be sure to bring your gear, cell phone and collect the score sheets and barge locker key from the Clubhouse beforehand. Bring a cooler and make a picnic lunch out of it - greatest patio in the City!
