Head Sailing instructor 

The Glenmore Sailing Club hires instructors to instill a love and joy for sailing in youth.

The community comes to us for affordable sailing Education, Recreation, Social Events and Racing programs. 


We are seeking a Head Sailing Instructor to lead our youth sailing programs. This role will combine on-water coaching with management and supervisory responsibilities while serving as liaison between parents, staff and club leadership. 


Term: Full time hours between May - September, Part Time in Sept - October


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations for summer camps, scout programs and other youth sailing programs 

  • Ensure that all programs align with Safety standards and Program Goals

  • Set and Communicate expectations for staff

  • Ensure all sailors are properly recorded using Sail Canada Checklick system 

  • Monitor quality of instruction across all programs to ensure consistency and excellence in teaching practices

  • Provide orientation and on job training for staff members prior to the start of programs

  • Provide support and mentorship to staff during lessons or on water sessions

  • Maintain a professional appearance and act as positive role model for The Glenmore Sailing Club at all times 

  • Ensure that club grounds and club house are kept in order

  • Minor Boat Repair



Qualifications & requirements

  • Coaching experience as Certified Sail Canada Instructor 

  • Previous experience in Leadership role 

  • Certifications:

  • CANSail 1-2 Instructor (Trained or Certified) 
  • VHF ROC-M Radio License 
  • PoliceBackground check with vulnerable sector screening 
  • Pleasure Craft Operators Card (PCOC)
  • Coach Boat safety certification

Assets

  • Leadership, Organizational and time management skills

  • Experience Racing or sailing at competitive level 

  • Experience working with children 

  • Ability to make decisions in emergency situations

  • Willingness or ability to tow small trailer

  • CANSail 3+ Instructor (Trained or Certified)
