    This course is great for sailors, power boaters, sea kayakers or anyone wishing to learn navigation skills.

    In the theory classes you will learn about navigation equipment and publications, bouyage system, dead reckoning, plotting a course, set and drift calculations, tides and currents, etc.

    All supplies can be purchased on the first night of classes. Students will be supplied with a course manual and chart.

    This course must be combined with an on-the-water course for the full certification.

    This certificate is needed to legally operate a VHF marine radio.

    This two night course consists of one night of lecture and one night for both the written and oral exam.

    The new course includes the endorsement for Digital Selective Calling (DSC) and the Global Maritime Distress Safety System (GMDSS).

    The sailing season is here! Time to get the Club and boats and ready for the season.

    We'll have a hamburger lunch at noon-ish. 

    The work to be done is:

    • Boat sheds and storage containers - empty and get Club boats ready for the season
    • Race Committee Barge - prepare for season, get ready to launch
    • Marks - get ready for the season (They will go in the water May 5th)
    • Club - yard work (garbage, trimming, raking, pressure wash deck, etc.), cleaning (dusting, windows, etc.)
    • TIF Team (“Things I Forgot”)

    Please bring your work clothes (gloves, etc.) and dress for the weather.  If you have hand tools that are suited to the tasks in your area please bring them.

    Mike Turner, International Judge will be leading the RRS seminar tonight and the Club Judge Course tomorrow.

    Tonight's course is a prerequisite for the Club Judge Course tomorrow.

    This course is also a stand alone presentation about the fundamentals and nuances of the Racing Rules of Sailing.

    Early in the season, this is a great opportunity to learn or refresh your understanding of the RRS.

    Friday night's Racing Rules of Sailing seminar is required for all Club Judge course participants. Register here for this course and sign up for Friday evening's RRS seminar

    The Club Judge supports the club’s racing program by serving on protest committees and acting as an advisor on racing rules of sailing and procedures at their home club, or at nearby events.

    Friday evening is a Racing Rules of Sailing seminar
    Saturday is the Club Judge course

    A Club Judge candidate must attend this course and pass a test before certification. Sample Club Judge Test to  try out before the course.


    Thanks to the Alberta Sailing Association for their financial assistance towards the cost of bringing the course instructor to Alberta.

    Further Judge education:

    A Regional Judge is able to chair protest committees for local and regional events and routinely be a member of protest committees for national events. Absent mitigating physical limitations, a Regional Judge can be expected to be capable of judging Rule 42 on the water.

    A National Judge is able to serve as Chief Judge for national and international events and may periodically serve as a member of International Juries. Absent mitigating physical limitations, a National Judge can be expected to be capable of judging Rule 42 on-the-water. Seminars at the Regional / National level are organized by Sail Canada.

    The training and certification of a Regional or National Judge is the responsibility of the Sail Canada Judges Sub-Committee.

    This free 3-day learn to sail camp isn’t “boat rides”

    A Learn to Sail Camp for Active Military and Veterans

    Learn how to crew and helm a sailboat.
    Teamwork, unit cohesion, self-reliance and fun.

    Learn how to manage a sailboat on the water. Through classroom and on-the-water sessions the concepts and practices to be a successful sailor are learned and applied.

    The Glenmore Sailing Club is partnering with the Disabled Sailing Association of Alberta and The Calgary Foundation for this program.

    Introduction to Sailing
    Youth will have 30 minutes of "sailing and safety" instruction before getting into the sailboats for 30 minutes of sailing. The Club will have eighteen Optimist sailboats on the lake for this event.

    This discovery session is tailored to introducing the fundamentals of sailing to youth 13-18 years old up to 68 kg / 150 pounds. 

    Sailing will take place close to shore so adults and friends will have great viewing of the kids enjoying their introduction to sailing.

    All Sport One Day is an amazing opportunity for Calgary children and youth to try a new sport. It’s also a chance to discover a new passion. With over 70 exciting activities to choose from, parents or guardians can enroll children (ages 6 and above) in up to two FREE sessions for a day of fun and adventure.

    The Glenmore Sailing Club will be hosting an Introduction to Sailing program for All Sport One Day.

    Registration starts May 21 at 10 am.

    Youth sailing lessons are fun, accessible and affordable. 

    Camps are Monday - Friday from 9am until 4pm. 

    We kindly request that each child is dropped off and picked up within 10 minutes of camps commencing or ending each day. If you are unable to do so, before and after camp care is available.

    • Before camp care is from 8am-9am each day. Cost is a flat rate of $30 for the week
    • After camp care is from 4pm-5pm each day. Cost is a flat rate of $30 for the week.

    Kids in Keelboats is a five day introductory sailing program to keelboat sailing. Building on previous sailing knowledge, this course introduces youth to the skills required to sail a 21' keelboat and how to sail it as a team. Completion of CANSail 1 is a prerequisite for this course.

    The SanJuan21 keelboat is a safe and capable learning boat for youth.
