Standard First Aid

A comprehensive training program that equips individuals with the skills to respond to a wide range of medical emergencies. It is the benchmark certification for workplace safety in many regions and covers both life-threatening situations and minor injuries.

Course Content & Skills

Standard First Aid goes beyond basic "Emergency First Aid" by providing more in-depth training on a broader variety of topics.

  • Life-Saving Essentials: Includes full CPR Level C (adult, child, and infant), AED (Automated External Defibrillator) training, and choking rescue techniques.

  • Trauma & Injuries: Care for head and spinal injuries, bone, muscle, and joint injuries (fractures/dislocations), and severe wound care (bleeding control).

  • Medical & Environmental Emergencies: Recognition and treatment of heart attacks, strokes, diabetic emergencies, seizures, poisoning, and heat/cold-related illnesses like hypothermia or heat stroke.

  • Systematic Response: Teaching the "Check, Call, Care" method to safely assess a scene and provide help until professional medical responders arrive.

This course is 8 hours online and 8 hours of classroom/hands on.

We will offer the condensed recertification as well. Those enrolling in the recertification course will only be required to complete the hands on 8 hour day and will be mostly skill based

Upon registration, if you are doing the full course, not the recert, Trevor will provide you with a course key and you can start the online portion right away  The online portion needs to be completed prior to the hands on portion on April 18th.

For recerts, there is no preparation required, just show up on the 18th.

This course will be instructed by Trevor Dobson. He is a member of the Glenmore Sailing Club and has been teaching CPR and first aid for over 16 years. He works full time with Calgary fire and part time as an emergency room registered nurse at Foothills Medical Center.
