Imagine Sailing

"Who wants to go sailing?"

This was the first question we started asking mid-2017 when we started thinking about and planning for our 60th anniversary (1959-2019).

We were told again and again that many people want to go sailing.

So... we designed programs for those who said they wanted to experience sailing.

The first partnership was with Scouts Canada and Girl Guides of Canada. 577 kids registered for the pilot program in 2018.

Next was a free learn to sail program for Active Military and Veterans, the Warrior Sailing Basic Training Camp. Registration was double the capacity of the first camp.

New Partnerships

We established partnerships to better connect us with the community:

  • Sport Calgary - Member
  • KidSport Calgary - Community Sport Partner
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award - Youth can realize their Adventurous Journey through sailing
  • Calgary Public Library - "Wonder, Seek, Discover, Share" program - We have a sailboat in the Shawnessy Library during the summer and we held four programming sessions at various libraries throughout the city.
  • Calgary's lake communities - "Sailing in the City" is a new program to do sailing demonstrations and take the public sailing on their home water

The Imagine Sailing Campaign

We're building a fleet of boats to fulfill the programming goals and help the community go sailing.

The "420 sailboat" is one of the most versatile training and program boats in North America for hundreds of post-secondary sailing programs, sailing schools and sailing clubs of all sizes.

  • Youth Summer Camps
  • Scouts Canada Introduction to Sailing
  • Girl Guides Introduction to Sailing
  • Educational Courses (theory - radio, navigation, competent crew)

  • Sailing in the City (demonstrations and participation at Calgary’s lake communities)
  • Warrior Sailing (free learn to sail program for active military and veterans)
