This is the essence of club racing...a mid-week break with friends racing around the buoys on the lake.
There are
six active fleets racing at the Club, so whatever your preference or skill level there's sure to be a like-minded group of sailors who will welcome you on the race course.
Though you might not expect it of Calgary, we've actually got a great lake for racing. For the beginner, the waters are protected enough that we rarely see large waves. For the experienced sailor, the ever- shifting winds provide the ultimate challenge.
Even at low water in June, the East Arm is always deep and we've got the space to set a racecourse with upwind and downwind legs as long as a kilometre and a half each. By the end of August and throughout the fall when the water levels are high, we'll rearrange our racing marks to use the full lake, almost doubling the possible size of our racing area. If you want a taste of big-water racing, join us for the Sunday Fall series when we can stretch each leg of our racecourse out to 2km or more.

Depending upon the weather, we'll typically run 3 or 4 races on an evening, so if you blow one you've always got a chance at redemption!
Club members volunteer to act as Race Committee and run the racing for other members. If you're new to racing, don't worry - we have a buddy system in place. Experienced volunteers will be happy to show you the ropes.
The night's racing wraps up at the clubhouse with burgers, beverages, and awards for effort and fastest of the night. You are guaranteed to hear many stories and a few lies about the night's racing. Sunsets viewed across the lake from the Club's deck are among the best in Calgary!
