Indoor Sailing (in January !)

January 23, 2020

The first event of the Glenmore Sailing Club's sailing season is "Indoor Sailing". We're excited to be part of Sport Calgary's "All Sport One City" and start our sailing season in January.

All Sport One City is an opportunity for Calgarians to try a new sport or get back to one they previously enjoyed. This year we are partnering with the Repsol Centre - we're at the north end of the pool so walk on in and watch the sailing in the pool.

This introduction to sailing event is made possible by Rogers Rent-All... their industrial fans along the length of the pool provide the wind to move the boats!

Indoor Sailing
Participants will have a 20 minute "sailing and safety" briefing before getting into a boat in the pool for 20 minutes of sailing. The Club will have six of our Optimist sailboats in the pool, and our volunteers will be in and around the pool for coaching and safety.

This discovery session is tailored to introducing the fundamentals of sailing to youth 13-18 years old (and others who are physically nimble - you need to be able to get under the sail in the boat - and up to 68 kg / 150 pounds).

Registration opens January 1st

The Optimist is the most popular youth training sailboat on the planet (there are hundreds of thousands of these youth training sailboats enjoyed by youth around the globe).
