Racing

Wednesday Night Racing Series

This is the essence of Club racing... a mid-week break with friends racing around the buoys on the lake.

Club members volunteer on a rotating basis for the Race Committee to run races for other members that night.

Not sure about the process for running races on Glenmore, read more. Join the BVMA -- Barge Volunteer Mentoring Activity

The night's racing wraps up at the Club with burgers, beverages, and awards for effort and the fastest of the night. You are guaranteed to hear many stories and a few lies about the night's racing. Glenmore's sunsets viewed from the Club's deck are the best in Calgary!

Thursday Night Racing Series

Thursday Nights, Fleet 171 will take the lake. Fleet 171 is a level racing fleet of similarly handicapped boats (SR21, J24, Santana 23, Hotfoot 21).

Why PHRF 171 Level Racing?

  • PHRF is the accepted handicap standard for keelboats (Portsmouth for dinghy)
  • ±3 seconds in handicap racing is almost negligible in racing (a blown tack or two)
  • 171 is the J 24 rating - most widely sailed class keelboat with the most reported with racing statistics
  • Many boats in the potential rating zone: 5 - SR21 at 176, 2 - J24 at 171, 2 - Santana 23 at 174, 1 - Hotfoot 20 at 168 and 1- Sonar 23 at 174
